SPRING 2012:
Dundas County Players are presently in rehearsals for their spring production the PULITZER PRIZE winning play OUR TOWN by Thornton Wilder , directed by Terry Green.
Set at the turn of the 20th Century, the play reveals the ordinary lives of the people in the town of Grover’s Corners New Hampshire. A unique style of theatre, the story is told, on a bare stage with a minimum of props by the Stage Manager, who steps in and out of the play at will, tells us the future of various characters just as we meet them and literally stage manages the production.
At the center of the story are Emily Webb and George Gibbs, young lovers who grow up, get married and start a family. Wilder has stated that “OUR TOWN is not offered as a nostalgic picture of life in a New Hampshire village but rather as an attempt to find a value above all price for the smallest of events in our daily lives.
The production will stage a cast of 24, some veterans to DCP and many new faces. The story is timeless and a small New Hampshire village could easily be a small village in Eastern Ontario......
“It’s a little play with all the big subjects in it”
-Thornton Wilder in a letter to Gertrude Stein, 1937
